O Law Corporation Home :: Employment Law :: Unlawful Deductions

Employers Cannot Deduct Whatever They Want

Employers are permitted to make only a few types of deductions from pay. These deductions typically consist of taxes, benefit plans, and sometimes loans. Deductions must be in writing and must be made to benefit the employee. (For the applicable law, click here: Labor Code, sections 221, 224.)
